New Year, New Site

As we celebrate the Shambhala New Year, we also celebrate the release of the Center's brand new website (which you may have already noticed). I wanted to take this post to describe some of the neat new features we have to help you get the most out of the site.

The Look
The design is meant to be clean and crisp with an intuitive layout. On the left sidebar you will find links to Shambhala programs (more coming soon) and tools to help you stay connected and informed of all the latest happenings. The body of the page contains the info and colorful banners that highlight upcoming events and news.

The Calendar
Google Calendar
Possibly the coolest new feature! Our new Calendar is easy to update, interactive, and subscribable (which probably isn't a word). If you have any question as to what is going on, check the calendar! It will be updated the minute information is given about an upcoming event. When clicking on an event, you will be taken to a page where you can see more info and even "discuss" the event by leaving comments or questions. But what if you'd rather not view the calendar on the web? You can now subscribe to the calendar and have events automatically downloaded to your desktop calendar application! As events are altered, the changes are updated on your computer as well. You have a few options for subscribing to the calendar. If you are on a Mac, you can use iCal or Sunbird. If you are a PC person, I'm sorry. Winking You can use Sunbird or any other emerging calendar app that reads ical formated calendars. You can also of course subscribe to the calendar using a free Google Calendar account (which works fantastically!)

The Blog
You're reading it! The Blog will feature news, music, video, Center member writings and poetry, and whatever else we think you'd might like to read. The Blog is also "subscribable" using an RSS reader such as your browser, email client, or
Google Reader.

The More
We've also got
photos, links, easy contact form, and even more stuff cooking. I hope you enjoy the new site and visit it often. A theme we will probably hear more often in the new year is community. The Center is an amazing home for us all and I hope the website becomes an integral part of building a beautiful Shambhala community!

The PS
