Buddhist Seed Syllables Calligraphy
March 18, 2007 (12:30-4pm)
Teacher: Betsy Pond
Cost: $25 donation (or whatever you can afford)
Prerequisite Training: None
On Sunday, March 18th, the San Antonio Shambhala Meditation Center will offer an afternoon class on Buddhist Calligraphy. The class will begin with lunch at 12:30 pm and will continue until 4:00 pm. The Tibetan written language and calligraphic characters were derived from the ancient Sanskrit. Participants will be introduced to the form and structure of syllables OM, AH, HUM, KI, SO, as well as the Tibetan Buddhist mantra OM MANI PADME HUM. The class will explore the ancient syllables that compose each Tibetan seed syllable, along with the meaning of the calligraphy strokes in each. In Tibetan Buddhism, learning how these syllables make sense helps the practitioner recognize and then visualize them. All calligraphy materials will be provided to participants, and a donation will be requested to help offset the costs of lunch, calligraphy materials, and the instruction. For more information on this Buddhist Calligraphy class, interested persons can contact Dr. Todd Russell at (210) 348-7791.
