Dharma Discussion Group
February 05, 2008
On Sunday,
February 10th, the Shambhala Meditation Center of San
Antonio will host the first Dharma Discussion Group
of the Tibetan New Year. This month, the Dharma
Discussion Group will watch the film,
On Life and Enlightenment: Principles of Buddhism
with His Holiness The Dalai
Lama. Lunch will be provided
at 12:30 pm, immediately following the general
meditation practice, and discussion will end by 3:00
p.m.
This film explores Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism in all its various manifestations. The concept of the liberated mind, through compassion and discipline, has created a multitude of forms that resonate with the grandeur of the Karakoram Himalayas and the extremes of austerity and sacrifice. Over a thousand years, the Tibetans have crystallized the ideas of non-duality and realized the pathways of the mind. They developed techniques and rituals, each of which was designed to bring the adept closer to the spiritual heights held as the ideal. On Sunday, February 20th, we will watch the first two episodes of this two-DVD set. Episode 1, Mudra, examines life as a ritual; and episode 2, Mandala, examines our role in the Universe.
Dharma Discussion Group participants include those who are committed to practicing the dharma, and interested in sharing their experiences with one another. The primary purpose of the Dharma Discussion Group is to discuss Buddhism as a living and conscious way to liberate spirit, and promote discipline in the study the Buddha’s teachings. All sangha members, as well as interested community members, are invited to join the Dharma Discussion Group at the monthly gatherings.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Dharma Discussion Group, you can contact Todd Russell at trussell@satx.rr.com or (210) 215-6466. Please plan to join the San Antonio Shambhala Dharma Discussion Group for a viewing of the film, On Life and Enlightenment: Principles of Buddhism with His Holiness The Dalai Lama, followed by a lively dialogue on Sunday, February 10, 2008, from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

Dharma Discussion Group
January 12, 2008
On
Sunday,
January
20th,
the Shambhala Meditation Center of San Antonio will
host the first Dharma Discussion Group of the New
Year. If you had one hour to spend with His
Holiness the Dalai Lama, what questions would you ask
him? This month, the Dharma Discussion Group
will watch the film, 10
Questions for The Dalai Lama. Lunch will be
provided at 12:30
pm,
immediately following the general meditation
practice, and discussion will end by 3:00
p.m.
In this
remarkable film, Rick Ray examines some of the
fundamental questions of our time by weaving together
observations from his own journeys throughout India
and the Middle East, and the wisdom of an
extraordinary spiritual leader. Part biography,
part philosophy, part dharma, part adventure and part
politics, 10
Questions for The Dalai Lama conveys more than history
and more than answers - it opens a window into the
heart of an inspiring man.
